Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and is usually around September time. It is a time of great family celebration, but also great personal introspection, as we look inside ourselves, ready for the judgement day ten days later on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). Again food has great symbolism at this time of year, with new fruits being eaten for the new year, as well as honey, for a sweet year ahead. The fruits of Israel, especially figs, dates and pomegranates are also seen in abundance at this festival. Yahrzeit (memorial) candles are lit on Yom Kippur as we try to cleanse ourselves spiritually to receive the gift of life for another year. We apologise to those we have hurt over the year and do our best to return to good ways. Bluewhite has a range of gifts to help celebrate this solemn yet joyful time of year, with honey dishes, pomegranate tableware and Yahrzeit candle holders in wood, aluminium, glass and Jerusalem stone being most popular.
