Netilat Yadayim (Washing Cups)
Netilat Yadayim is the Hebrew blessing for the ritual washing of the hands before eating bread. Our table is considered our altar, so we need to wash before eating bread, a staple food. The act of ritual washing is very spiritual – water gives life, our hands are part of our physical body, the bread gives us sustenance. Priests in the Temple prepared themselves by washing, so do we before eating bread. Bluewhite has a range of hand-washing jugs or vessels, made from glass, aluminium and painted, lacquered wood. We also have a range of embroidered towels to dry afterwards, for all occasions around the Jewish year.
“Blessed are you, O L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us concerning the elevation of hands.”
